How helpful are online groups? It seems the more I write the more involved I get. And the deeper I get the more swamped I am with information, both good and bad. I am a sponge for information for and from other writers. I was the member of an online writing group, but have lapsed in keeping up with it. Just this morning I discovered another online group started by a local English professor. I met her at a brainstorming session with five other people as we drank coffee at Panera Bread. I admired and respected her, but I’m not sure I have the time to join another writing group.
How writers manage their time is a reflection of the amount of writing they can accomplish in a day, week, month or lifetime. If writing is a priority, then the majority of time allotted to writing should be the greatest part of each day. I have to admit that a large proportion of my day is devoted to writing. That is why I chose the subject of writing for my Post a Day 2011 commitment. Before I committed to posting a blog a day, I wrote but not with such determination. I never expected to succeed in the effort. I am also surprised at the response I got from writing a blog a day. I am so grateful to other bloggers who signed up to receive emails when I post, who clicked the “like” button, or who made comments.
They may never know how their support touched me and encouraged me to keep on posting. My family and friends also were supportive and I appreciate them letting me sneak away to my computer to post, giving me time to sit quietly and write in my notebook, or just patting me on the back now and then with a word of encouragement. Even when I was glued to my computer reading one online writing group after another or reading articles from online writing magazines, friends still left me messages on Facebook, emails, and telephone calls. I am proud that I did not miss one day of posting in October.
I see now why posting a day prepares a writer to write a novel in one month. I feel I am up for it and I look forward to the experience. I’m going to have to go to my online group of writers also setting out on this adventure and ask for their help in beginning this journey. I’ll post at least once a week and let you know how it is going. And in the meantime and today is Halloween, a very special day for my granddaughter and the neighborhood she lives in. It is my neighborhood now and although my yard is not decorated with huge blow-up ghosts, who are adorable, I do plan to pass out candy at home and then walk down the street to her house and help pass out candy there. Last year we had a family pumpkin carving contest which was a lot of fun. This year the family gathers at Thanksgiving.
It’s a good day to end my daily blog and tomorrow will be a great day to begin my novel. Look for updates and thanks again for stopping by and reading my blogs.
